Cruising and exploring the Chesapeake Bay <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chesapeake Bay never disappoints, small towns and wide open water. It feels more like home with open blue water compared to the ICW and inland waters of the south. Being 200 miles long and having over 11,000 miles of shoreline there is lots to explore. After leaving Norfolk, we visited two towns on the western bank on the Bay in Maryland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norfolk, VA to Cape Charles was 32 NM\/4h 40m and we docked at Cape Charles Town Harbor and Marina. A quaint town with lots happening and so golf cart friendly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cape Charles to Crisfield was 42.5Nm\/7h 10m and we docked at Somers Cove Marina. The Cove has a good anchorage but we had trouble with the anchor chain so decided to grab a dock. The town is small but the marina huge, with countless slips and docks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chesapeake Bay starts in Havre de Grace Maryland ends in Norfolk VA<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The widest point is 30 miles and narrowest point is 2.8 miles<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dodging crab pots and fishing flags is like playing frogger<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cape Charles hidden gem was the amazing beaches and great beach access.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Cape Charles Brewing is a family run brewery started by two brothers and their mom. They had a great selection of dark beers and the Bourbon Barrel Stout was fabulous. A great outdoor space, delicious crab cakes and live music gave this brewery five stars!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We enjoy visiting book stores and coffee shops, although we find many more breweries. Peach Street books in Cape Charles was a gem! Certainly the best we have visited on the East Coast.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Smith Island Cake is the dessert of Maryland. It consist of 8-10 very thin layers of yellow cake with chocolate frosting between each layer. The cakes were a symbol of community and togetherness sent by wives to their husbands during the autumn oyster harvest. While in Crisfield we gave it a try at Fisherman’s Grille. Crisfield is one island north from Smith Island. We should have waited until we visited Smith Island, although it was good, it did not live up to the hype. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
