The weather (Ian) delayed our leaving by a few days.  We left Westport, MA on Thursday, October 6, 2022.  Dropping the mooring, knowing we were not coming back for a while, was an eerie but exciting feeling.  Lots of  folks asked where are you going and we always replied, where ever!  We are looking for sunshine, peace and new places to explore.  We did lots of reperch but have no real plan.  I am sure we will see our share of foul weather and rough seas but this leg the weather  was beyond beautiful and ocean conditions were in our favor.  Our goal was to travel each day getting to the Chesapeake Bay and get ahead of the weather in the north.  On our return, we can explore some places we missed.   We intend to get off the boat everyday and see something new.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Calm Seas: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Cruising down the East River and seeing NYC from the water was an amazing experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Dolphin pods sightings in the Atlantic, we slowed slowed to watch them and  they enjoyed playing in our wake.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Rough Waters:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Bad Weather on Night Zero while in Westport MA.  THUNDER, Lightening, wind and chilly!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Forgot to shut off anchor hose therefore the hose burst and water poured out emptying  a tank of water on the deck.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Saybrook, CT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Day 1 planned on traveling  to Fishers Island but beautiful day so continued on to Saybrook, CT<\/strong>.  Found good and free mooring in Saybrook Harbor, any mooring ball with a yellow ribbon can be picked up a free<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Port Jefferson, NY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        We were going to anchor in Jefferson Harbor but found an empty mooring field outside of the anchorage in front of Old Field Beach, so we picked up a mooring ball.  It was a long dinghy ride into the harbor but worth it.   We walked around some neighborhoods, downtown, and watched the ferries. It was a good stop with  trendy type downtown stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Port Washington, NY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        We picked up a mooring at Port Washington Mooring at Manhasset Bay.  The mooring included water taxi rides which had multiple drop offs around town. We enjoyed a walk down Main St and dinner at Loco and a Stop and Shop run.  The train into the city is a 10 minute walk from the marina.  Maybe on the way back, we will stay a few days, and take the train to Grand Central Station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
