During our last visit to Charleston, we fell in love with the city and all it has to offer. So, this year we decided to stay a week and play the role of tourists. Also the timing was perfect to queue up for Tracy to fly home for the annual fall ‘Lane Girls Weekend’ and Zach to fly down to cruise with Bob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Best part of Charleston is catching up with Jodi and Stephen. We had a great night of chatting and a wonderful dinner and drinks at Leon’s Oyster and Chicken. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Finally, tried chicken and waffles a weird combo but very a popular Southern meal and yes, delicious!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Rainbow Row is one of Charleston’s most photographed sites. Each of these thirteen brightly colored houses have an interesting historical story. There are lots of speculated reasons for the brightly painted homes including so drunk sailors might find their way home easier to indicating what types of items were sold by merchants living here.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Charleston Harbor is bustling with activity and we could watch all from Three Sons. The Coast Guard runs drills and on this day, they were practicing landing the basket from the helicopter on to the boat, while both were moving. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Along with a sampling of beer and live music, we enjoyed dinner at the Gobble Gobble Food Truck at the Palmetto Brewing Co.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Took a ferry to Fort Sumter, the only way to tour this National Monument is by catching a ride on this ferry. Fort Sumter is located in the middle of Charleston Harbor on a man made island. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Enjoyed touring Fort Sumter, where the civil war began. Learned lots about the history of the fort, the role it played in the Civil War and the reconstruction of the site to date.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Downtown Charleston host about 11 breweries, lots within walking distance of each other. There may have been a train track crossing involved. We did our best crossing a few off the list, sampling various flavors while researching their back story and checking out the venues. Our ranking starting with the best: Fatty Beer Works, Edmund Oast Brewing Co, Munkle, Rusty Bull, The Brewlab of Charleston.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Three Sons parked at Charleston Maritime Center. A small 10 slip marina in the middle of tons of touristy activities and walking distance to Historical Charleston and the French Quarter. Without a doubt, the most rocky, rollie place we have ever stayed. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Umm? Along with strong currents and winds from the Cooper River, the close crossing of this adds to the rocking and rolling of the boat.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    • Docked at Charleston Maritime Center. Great location for exploring Charleston but exposed to Charleston Harbor. That means lots of rolling and rocking due to strong currents, waves, wakes and wind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
