Although we love the Exumas and feel we have so much more to see here, we are moving east to Eleuthera. We made the 45 Nautical Mile trek across the Exuma Sound in just over 6 hours and 30 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Nebo let us down and stop transmitting so no official data for this segment. Three Sons left the anchorage at Shroud Cay at high tide to safely make it to the bank before transiting the Wax Cut. The cut was swirly and bumpy but comfortable and we saw 10.9 knots riding the current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eleuthera is long and skinny! With a populations of 10,000 residents it is 110 miles long but in most parts not even a mile wide. It does not have a single traffic light. There are no major resorts or and only small local shops. The landscape of the island is a little different from others having hills, bluffs and cliffs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rock Sound is the first settlement we stopped at in Eleuthera. The town is filled with colorful houses and friendly folks. The harbor is large and good protections from wind and current along with a very large dinghy dock and trash bins!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the middle of Rock Sound, behind the primary schools, is The Ocean Hole is a large salt water lake. The hole is connected to the ocean with some underground tunnels and has tide. We saw some bait fish and black fish, but supposedly it is teaming with all sorts of marine life. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Caught up with Second Best and had a great dinner at Wild Orchid. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Took the two mile hike up Queens Highway to explore the Cathedral Caves. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Had a great lunch and even better time visiting with Ingrid the owner of Rock Oven Pizzeria. She had no pizza crust or much food but said she had a piece of fish she could cook up for us. It appeared to only be a super small take out place with no tables but she told us to sit on the bench outside. She delivered our fish and chips and they were delicious!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Rock Sound is small with a few businesses and restaurants. We spent the afternoon walking around and stopping for some shopping and a drink or two. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Just stopped for a drink at the bar of Frigates. The atmosphere had a cool vibe with fire pits, lounge chairs and picnic tables in the sand. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
