With the prediction of a ‘blow’ coming across the Bahamas, we decided to hunker down in Great Guana Cay. We cruised 8.5 Nautical Miles across the Sea of Abaco to Settlement Harbor and docked at Orchid Bay Marina. Great Guana Cay was also devastated by Hurricane Dorian in 2019. We took lots of walks along the beach and up and down the streets to get a feel for the rebuilding and devastation by Mother Nature. Thankfully, the weather was beautiful while we waited for the blow, so along with lots of walks, we spent time with other cruisers on the docks and visited the two famous beach bars, Nippers and Grabbers! <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The white, powered sand beaches stretch the for miles and beautiful coral lines part of the beach. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The one room school house on the island has 17 students in grade K-6.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Some volunteers were repainting the mural on the school house. We stopped and chatted and learned so much about the island.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Calm before the storm! We enjoyed the sunset at the end of our dock.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We secured Three Sons using every line on the boat and a few extra fenders. The wind started on Friday night and continued with heavy rain all day Saturday! The storm paled in comparison to our Georgetown blow, thanks goodness! We entertained ourselves with a good book, chores and a lovely dinner on Who Dat. Not a bad way to ride out a storm. by luck we were spared the worst of the storm. We learned the next day, that the storm was much more sever just a few miles south, as boats in Staniel Cay area had their dinghy overturned and 6 boats in Georgetown were struck by lightning. Many cruisers\/friends that we have meet along the way reached out the next day via text or boating Apps to check in.
