We’ve challenged ourselves on our fourth trip through the Chesapeake to seek out towns that we’ve missed on prior cruises. After leaving Deltaville, we took a short trip north to Reedville, VA. This was a perfect trip as we got to see a new town and only needed to travel a few hours as the weather wasn’t predicted to be too good for cruising. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Reedville is also just south of the mouth of the Potomac River, which is known to stir up a mess on windy days. We dropped the anchor in the Reedville Creek and ventured into this tiny town to find that they are still operating ‘winter’ hours and most places were closed (including the famous Chitterchats Ice Cream). Next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Reedville, we crossed the Chesapeake to the East side of the Bay. We finally got to explore Cambridge and Oxford (Yes Maryland, not UK) as we’ve been trying to work in a stop to these small towns and never seemed to make it. We stopped in Cambridge for 2 nights and really enjoyed this little seaside town. We finally crossed paths with John and Bonny from Sl\u00e0inte Mhath. They started their Great Loop last July from Westport heading north as we left for the South in September on a collision course, but never seemed to catch up with them. Luckily they diverted to Cambridge for a nice night out exploring the town, the rar<\/strong> Brewery, an Italian meal, and a fun game of Rack-o back on their boat. Unfortunately they pressed on the next day to complete their loop and we took the short trip across the Choptank River to Oxford. Oxford was quite a bit smaller than Cambridge, but they did have an open ice cream shop, the Scottish Highland Creamery which we enjoyed as we walked thru this quiet town. Anchoring in Oxford got us a little closer to Annapolis so that we could have another short day crossing back across the bay to stage for our next visitors! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cambridge is the home of Harriet Tubman and appropriately celebrates her work with a museum and several murals around the town. ‘Take My Hand’ mural, along with the inside replica of the store was done by artist, Michael Rosato.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Inside the Harriet Tubman Museum, the back room is a painted replica of Bucktown General Store. This painted replica is just amazing! The store was the site of Tubman’s fateful head injury, and is still standing today, just a few miles down the road from the museum. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

ReAle Revival (rar) Brewery had lots of unique IPAs, not so many porters but Tracy still enjoyed a flight (or two.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

A interesting and unique feature spread around the community of Oxford is small painted fences. Residents used the Traditional Oxford Fence to express themselves. Their works of art are displayed throughout the town of Oxford, and are numbered with their locations, artist, and title.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

What a great bookstore! Inside was small and jammed packed with new and used books. Piles of books to the ceiling in some places and it even had a musty smell which was actually gave the place a nice vibe. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
