It was with a heavy heart we pulled up the anchor at Covered Portage. It really was a beautiful spot. Since windy weather was expected we headed for Killarney Mountain Lodge. Truly, one of the top places we have docked on this trip. The fact that we have stayed in two vastly different venues in the last 48 hours is one aspect that makes this trip exciting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The marina is part of the resort that house cabins, suites, a heated pool, rec room and 8 restaurants. It is in a remote area with a few houses, one other establishment, The Sportsman Inn and a General Store. The main lodge houses a large wood-burning fireplace, open solid-log spaces and live music and entertainment in their Carousel Lounge. The resort is located within Killarney Provincial Park, with lots of hiking trails but we never had a chance to explore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After swimming in the beautiful fresh water at Covered Portage Cove, we took the 2.5 Nautical Mile cruise to Killarney Mountain Lodge in our wet swimsuits. Once we were docked, we transitioned to their pool to continue swimming and enjoying cocktails and chatting with other loopers. That night we walked up to their sister venue, the Sportsman Lodge, for oysters and drinks at Wild Willy’s Bait Shop. Bob enjoyed the oysters with some the other loopers, but nobody enjoyed the Margaritas. They were so sour! Our plan was to head to Herbert’s for their famous fish fry dinner but we lost track of time with our oysters and Margaritas and arrived at the new location at 8:01, one minute after closing! Instead we ended up at Dining Room of the KML and had a delicious meal. Ended this night with a campfire and smores!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By far the best meal during our time at Killarney Mountain Lodge was at their premium steak house, The Ranch House. We both had the stuffed portabella mushrooms, ribeye with blue cheese, sprouts and crispy potatoes that were unbelievable! The chef came out and chatted with our table and it was nice to hear her story of becoming a chef and how she prepared our meals. The restaurant was beautiful, an old rustic log cabin with great views of the water. The night we were there it was filled with Loopers. We ended the night at the Carosoul with live music. It was a night filled with good food and laughter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, this was a first and hopefully a last! Heading to the galley to make coffee in the AM, Tracy noticed the graham crackers from the night before all chewed with crumbs all over the counter. The coffee filters were pulled out of the cabinet and small black flakes were scattered about. “Bob we have a problem” were the first words uttered this lovely morning. After further investigation, we discovered 1\/2 of a banana was chewed from our vegetable hammock hanging. The black flakes were shred of banana peels. After looking around trying to piece together what go in, we discovered a rip in our screen! We chatted with the dock master and although he was convinced what ever it was, possible a raccoon, it probably got out. Since probably did not sit well, with Tracy, we borrowed Bailey, the dalmatian on our buddy boat, and had her sniff around. Interesting she seemed very interested in the window with the ripped screen to the counter but nothing else kept her attention. We felt a bit better but that night we locked ourselves in the state room and left crackers out on the counter. We have never been so happy to find the crackers untouched on the counter the next morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
