We only stayed one day in this quaint, little town but we hit it hard!

After we docked, we were excited to walk the town and see the ‘mushroom houses’ built by artist Earl Young. It was interesting to learn he didn’t use blueprints, he used the vision in his mind created homes that fit the site. The houses are constructed of mostly stone, using limestone, fieldstone, and boulders from Northern Michigan. Each of these houses is individually different and was designed to blend in with its surrounding landscape.

Next, we enjoyed various cocktails and unique venues including: a winery, roof top bar and tap house. We ended the night shopping! It must be the end of the season because deals were plentiful. We try hard not to buy much at stops, something about simple living and living on a boat, but we found some nice Great Lakes hats, sweatshirts and platters in Charlevoix.
