St. Simon Island, GA

This beautiful, quaint island was a first for us and we did lots of exploring!

Three Sons docked at Morningside Marina – Golden Isle for two nights. However, our first plan was to anchor a night and then move over to the marina so we could take our bikes off for exploring. We dropped the hook at Lanier Island and it set great and we got a good hold. Off we went in the dingy to explore the area. After docking the dingy and chatting with some local fishermen/woman, we strolled through Gascoigne Bluff Park marveling at the live oaks, moss and various fields. We walked about two miles over to Redfern Village and OH MY it was 86 degrees and humid. After lunch and peeking into a few shops, we (ok Tracy) called Uncle and called a Uber instead of the healthy walk back — too hot!

We timed getting back to Three Sons because a storm was a brewing. It was a relatively calm storm with a few gust of winds and raindrops but yikes – the sailboat next to us was getting very close. After watching the situation for a while, we decided to once again call Uncle and head to the marina instead of dealing what ever was happening with the wind, currents and sailboat. The marina managed to get us a last minute slip and we docked Three Sons in current, wind and no dock hands! A good night sleep was had for all.

The next day, we celebrated Bob’s birthday by a day on bikes exploring St. Simon!
