America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association Rendezvous in Norfolk, VA

Saturday, April 29 – Thursday, May 4, 2023

The AGLCA (America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association) Rendezvous far exceeded any of our expectations. We bought our tickets and were looking forward to attending and learning. Our goal for attending was to learn as much as we can from folks in person. We can only watch so many YouTube videos and read so many blogs. Not only were the sessions worthwhile but chatting with folks was invaluable. We learned so much from fellow boaters who have completed the loop, are on the loop or planning for the loop. The folks we are meeting along the way and the relationships we are forming is without a doubt the best part.

The Waterside Marina basin was filled to capacity with 40 looper boats for the event, including the Three Sons.
So much to learn and eat!
Enjoyed some cocktails and a tour, the engine room was bigger than Three Sons.
East Coast, Middle America, and West Coast in attendance at AGLCA
Popping champaign for mimosas and crepes breakfast with Pickett’s Pub.
The best burger ever, The Elvis- hamburger topped with peanut butter, cheese and bacon at Jack’s Browns Burger Joint The waiter told us to “take a chance” and so glad we did!
Smartmouth Brewery, no Porters or Stouts but worth the walk.
Docktales on Three Sons, meet some folks from MA and the West Coast.
Three Sons participated in the Looper Crawl and hosted about 50 folks. It was such a joy to chat with folks regarding the pros and cons of a Grand Banks/trawlers and planning this journey.
Three Sons also participate in a Coast Guard Safety inspection and received a vessel safety check sticker.
Once again, can’t say enough about the folks you meet along the way!

Leaving Waterside Marina, we cruised through Norfolk Harbor. Certainly the busiest harbor we have cruised and it hosts the largest Navy base in the world. It is a pretty impressive sight and quite busy. Taking pictures was secondary to navigating and staying out of the way of the amazing, huge vessels.
