A retirement goal was to up our snorkeling game!
We snorkeled lots while exploring the individual Cays in the Exuma Island chain. Our favorite section of the Exuma Islands was the Exuma Land and See Park. Three Sons dropped the anchor 3 times, spending 8 days in the 112,640 acre park. Established in 1958, the boundaries of the park run from Shroud Cay in the north to Bell Island in the south stretching over 176 square miles. Most of our time was spent exploring the waters in the park, but we did hike on three of the 16 Cays. The park’s policy is Nothing can be taken away from or left on the islands. “Leave Footprints and Take Photos” is the motto. That means no fishing or shell collecting, you must bring everything with you that you need and take everything with you out – including trash. The cays are uninhabited or private. For miles and day after day all you see is boats, no buildings, no stores, no roads, no cars, just nature and wildlife. The waters around each cay are filled with an amazing variety of marine life. We were blessed to explore the secluded beaches, witness the amazing views, explore the underwater world, and have safe, calm anchorages. A retirement goal was to up our snorkeling skills and we are making progress!
