Bahama

We left Old Bahama Bay at first light and cruised back to the USA with no issues. A beautiful day and time to reflect on our Bahamian Stats!

Our time in the Bahamas is coming to an end! With the prediction of good weather to cross the Atlantic to Florida, we started making our way over to the western part of the Bahamas.

After dropping Zach off at the airport, we returned to Three Sons and started the engines. Our next destination was Green Turtle Cay, but between here and there, we needed to time the transit through Whale Cut. Since slack tide was at 7AM and we did not want to travel in the dark, our strategy was to leave Marsh Harbor and spent the night on anchor off the north coast of Great Guana Cay.

Pure joy is sharing our experience with one of the boys! Zach flew into Marsh Harbor, Abaco and we spent 10 days island hopping!

Leaving Eleuthera, we headed to the Abaco Islands. Still recovering from the Lobsta’ Incident, Tracy laid around most of this rolly, bumpy 51 Nautical Mile ride.

Spanish Wells has a bit of Florida feel with Bahamian vibe. This small, picturesque island is only two miles long and a half mile wide. A small bridge connects it to Russell Island which is a bit longer at three miles. There are about 1600 people who call this unassuming island community home.

We spend lots of time researching weather, managing stops and trying to have no schedule. This is done because we call this pleasure cruising and have no desire to boat in bad weather. This week Mother Nature won and we got caught in probably one of the worse weather patterns of the last two years.

We had planned to explore the Exuma Island chain for a few more days but with upcoming wind we decided to head over to Eleuthera a few days early. It was a beautiful, calm 37 Nautical Mile cruise across the Exuma Bank to south west corner of Eleuthera. Along with our buddy boats, we docked at Cape Eleuthera Resort and Marina to escape the incoming weather.

We would have loved to stay another day at our anchorage near Cave Cay. However, with so many Cays to explore and always trying to stay ahead of weather, we picked up anchor and headed to Compass Cay.

Week 3 and 4 – VISITORS

Our final weeks in Georgetown/Stocking Island brought visitors from home to experience our boating lifestyle.

Week 2

Yet another spectacular week in the Bahamas filled with beach days, a blow, happy hours and tooling around on the dinghy in Elizabeth Harbor. Three Sons is moored outside of Chat N Chill and feeling blessed each day to experience life on the water at this gorgeous location.

Poker Run

Along with our buddy boats and over 100 other cruisers, we participated in the Georgetown Cruisers Regatta Poker Run. This is one event organized by cruisers during a two week fundraiser in which monies raised are donated to local charities to benefit Bahamians.

Week 1!

We pulled out of Farmers Cay in timing with the currents and had a smooth exit. Julian waved goodbye to us on the docks and encouraged us to stop back on our way back north.

One of our favorites from last year, so a repeat visit was on the agenda. It was a beautiful, quick ride from Warderick Wells and we all lucked out and found empty mooring balls.

Warderick Wells Cay is one of the most beautiful locations we have encountered on our journey. It was one of our favorites last year and our memories served correctly, that this place is beyond special. The views are absolutely spectacular, both from the water and from the hiking trails throughout the island. We enjoyed walking along the beaches, sandbars, hiking the trails and snorkeling. The water is breathtakingly beautiful with the most vibrant shades of blues and greens.

It was a day! Our first stop in the Exuma Land and Sea Park involved a dinghy ride through the mangroves, turtle watching, enjoying some beach time, riding the ‘washing machine’ and a relaxing dinner on Three Sons!

After three long days, we finally arrived in the Exumas!

We have been tracking weather for a few weeks and think we found our weather window. After lots of discussion, consulting a weather guru, and checking and rechecking weather apps, four boats decided to leave Key Largo and make the trek across the Atlantic to Bimini, Bahamas

In order to avoid snow and cold temperatures, we cruised the Bahamian Islands. We truly felt blessed for this opportunity of adventure, clear water, and warm temps.
