Bahama Bound!

We have been tracking weather for a few weeks and think we found our weather window. After lots of discussion, consulting a weather guru, and checking and rechecking weather apps, four boats decided to leave Key Largo and make the trek across the Atlantic to Bimini, Bahamas

It was a beautiful cruise and we got a great push from the Gulf Stream! We traveled 74 Nautical Miles in 8 hours 24 min at an average speed of 8.8 knots. At times we saw double digits, a real treat for Three Sons!

Once we docked at Bimini Blue Water, the four captains secured us and sent off to get us all checked in. While the captains were tending to the chores the Admirals decided that docktails were in order.

After everyone was settled we headed to Big Game Marina for a celebratory dinner of calamari, prime rib, baked potatoes, and plantains, along with Kalik beer.

A weather window was in our favor, so we all decided to head out early in the AM and make a 90 Nautical Mile run for Morgan Bluff off of the Northern tip of Andros Island. It was a 12 hour run with depths of water from 15 to 2,500 feet. Luckily, only the last two hours got a little snotty. We left Bimini at day break and dropped the anchor just moments before it got dark. The next day, we were up early again and set off for a Highborne Cay, an easier day of 9 hours and 23 minutes and 74 miles. Along with our 3 buddy boats, we pushed hard but in three days crossed to the Bahamas and arrived in the Exumas!

Bob regretted not being prepared last year to fish in the waters of the Bahamas. He came prepared this year and in just two days of trolling got a few Spanish Mackerel, a Barracuda, and a blackfin tuna!

Fresh Mackerel for dinner
Barracuda! The biggest fish, but he lived to fight another day as he was quickly released.
