Warderick Wells Cay, Exuma

Warderick Wells Cay is one of the most beautiful locations we have encountered on our journey. It was one of our favorites last year and our memories served correctly, that this place is beyond special. The views are absolutely spectacular, both from the water and from the hiking trails throughout the island. We enjoyed walking along the beaches, sandbars, hiking the trails and snorkeling. The water is breathtakingly beautiful with the most vibrant shades of blues and greens.

The anchorage is a beautiful natural harbor with a few moorings that form a J shape around a sand bar. Parts of the harbor are very shallow and a mini beach is created in the middle during low tide. It is a just a beautiful setting with the color of water like looks magical. With so much shallow water it is easy to walk around and hunt for wildlife.

The Exuma Land and Sea Park’s office is located on this cay. Not only is this location remote but is is not inhabited with the exception of only a few park employees that stay/live in a one building. They work for 30 days then go back to their homes in Nassau for 10 days off. The park has no facilities or trash. The park office is primitive and very little cell service.

We spent three nights moored and took advantage of all the hiking trails and places to explore, did some snorkeling, spent time at the beach and sandbar, took a long dinghy ride to some cays further south and some quiet nights on anchor. Our last night the cruisers had a sundown cocktail hour with games of bocce.
