We would have loved to stay another day at our anchorage near Cave Cay. However, with so many Cays to explore and always trying to stay ahead of weather, we picked up anchor and headed to Compass Cay.

Once again, we headed out through Rudder Cay into the Exuma Sound. Luckily, the seas and wind were on our side and the transit was much easier than yesterday. Bob tossed out a line and brought in the biggest fish this season, a Barracuda.

After debating our options, we decided to go the longer way and play it safe with the currents in the cuts and shallow water. We crossed over to the Tongue of the Ocean using Conch Cut and went around Fowl Cay to get to Compass Cay. Once through the cut, we saw what looks like an Islander twin engine plane crash landed close to the beach.

Our boat buddies went into Compass Marina while we dropped anchor in Compass Cay South Anchorage. Wow! Once again, just a super, beyond beautiful spot! Once we were settled, we dropped the dingy and went off exploring. Just south of us is an area known as Pipe Alley. It’s a multitude of channels between cays, stretching for several miles. The area is very picturesque and is characterized by sandbars that appear and disappear with the tides, creating a constantly changing landscape.
Our first stop was at Little Pipe Sandbar or Conch Shell Sand Bar. Appropriately names since the huge sandbar was filled with Conchs of all sizes. We enjoyed watching them shuttle along the sand leaving tracks.

Tooling around on the dinghy, we also landed on another sand bank, where we met up with our boat buddies. The day was spent admiring the various shades of blue water around us, floating in the current, great company, cocktails and of course drone flying. One of the best things about this area is its isolation. The sandbar is located far away from other popular beaches in the area, giving you a sense of peace and quietness,

As we were dinghying around we were amazed at the beautiful sights and such shallow water. Our dinghy requires about 12 inches of water and a few times, we ran out! At one point we had a little run in with a sea plane. We tried to out run it but lost, or gave up with spray it was shooting up.

Back at the boat we had a relaxing evening and enjoyed a great sunset from the stern of the boat and beautiful moonscape from the bow. After dinner, we broke our favorite glass. We do know better having glass on the boat and Bob only bled a little.
