Of course, we needed to make a side trip to a place called Westport. Venturing off the Rideau Canal brought us to the quaint, little town of Westport, Canada. A wonderful stop, with a brewery, (the brewery was actually closer to the marina than the marina bathrooms) a great grocery store, restaurants and wonderful shops to browse.

The cruise to Westport was probably the worse weather we have traveled in so far. For the 8 Nautical Mile journey, it was drizzling, then a little rainy, then pouring. Even with all our rain gear, by the time we crossed the Upper Rideau Lake, we were drenched. Lucky, we were docked just before the extremely, heavy rain and fog set in. Since it rained all day, our first day in Westport was filled with eating out and some rest.

Our second day in Westport brought sunshine and time to explore the area. Walking around Main St, we found a little library, a wonderful bakery and some one of a kind shops with interesting merchandise. We walked up to Scheuermann Vineyard and Winery and enjoyed pizza from their wood fired outdoor oven. We really enjoyed the ambiance of the outdoor seating overlooking the water and Vineyard. We ended the night back at the Westport Brewery with Camelot where we were introduced to the Radler, their blond beer mixed with OJ!
