Heading North! FL to MA

We started our journey up north on Friday, March 31, 2023. Zach left us in the early AM to catch his flight home and should be back in MA in 3 hours, while we hope to arrive in Westport by June 1st. Leaving Marineland, we decide to take a short cruise (18 Nautical Miles, 3 hours) to St. Augustine to give the boat an easy first run. We picked up a mooring ball at St. Augustine Municipal Marina and had a great dinner at Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grill in town.

Three Sons docked at Marineland Marine with the Atlantic Ocean across the street.
Pulling out of our slip at Marineland Marina to head north. We are going to miss our dock mates, Saving Grace. We thank them for their great cruising advice and Uber rides. They snapped a great picture of Three Sons as they waved us off.

Three Sons started flying the American Great Loop Cruising Association (AGLCA) Flag. Umm, when will cross our wake on this great adventure?

The next morning, Saturday, April 1, 2023, we cruised from St. Augustine to Fernandina Beach traveling north on the ICW for 53 nautical miles. The cruise took 8 and half hours and we picked up a mooring ball at Oasis Marina at Fernandina Beach. We intended to only stay one night but since it was such a fun place with so much to explore, we stayed two nights. The distance between the ICW/marina and the ocean was about 3 miles down main street which meant we could walk to the beach, an added plus! Fernandina Beach is a great town with eclectic shops, tons of restaurants, breweries and a distillery.

We visited a few breweries in the area including: First Love Brew Pub, The Alley by AIBC, PJD’s Beer Garden, Mocama Beer Company
Sometimes, he plays the retired man very well!
Dinghying back to our boat we found ourselves in the middle of a few dolphins. We turned off the engine and floated around while they swam. We were in awe watching dolphins pop up all around us. They are amazing animals, but way too fast for our picture/video taking. Simply sitting back and watching them was a spectacular way to end the day.
