The winds finally calmed so we left the dock from Thunderbolt Marina and headed to Beaufort, SC picking up a mooring ball at Safe Harbor, Beaufort. Still trying to remember the different pronunciations for Beaufort, South Carolina “BEW-fert” and Beaufort, North Carolina “BOW-fert.” You are corrected by locals if you say it wrong! After exploring the town and historical homes, we had dinner (and ice cream) in town with Soul Shine and Vamonos. Early the next morning, April 12, 2023, we cruised for 5.5 hours/38NM arriving at a creek off the Edison River at MM 495. Toogoodoo Creek is the perfect anchorage: calm, peaceful, great holding, no passing boats, no civilianization for miles! We practiced our drone flying and how to land on a small spot on the bow of the boat. We got early in the next morning for our long cruise, 9hours/ 60NM, to McCellanville, SC. The prize for rising early was the most amazing sunrise.

Yup, made it through the bridge, learning how to drive straight!
McCellanville, SC is an extremely small historical fishing (shrimp) village, where a paper drawn map is all you need. Touring this town was like stepping back in time.
We docked at Leland Oil on Jeremy Creek, just a half mile off the ICW MM 430. Looper boats share the dock with shrimp boats, nothing much but such peace and quiet.
The little town’s main road is lined with grand, very old oak trees.
The town might be little but the historical churches are beyond beautiful.
The only restaurant in town but the chef creates recipes from his own crab pots and who would not want to rock before getting a table!
