Georgetown, Murrell’s Inlet, SC, Bird Island, NC

We planned short cruises on the ICW in North Carolina so we could spent time exploring. We left McCellanville, SC on Friday, April 14th and cruised to Georgetown, SC. Just a short easy cruise for 24.1NM – 3 hours and 35 minutes. We docked at Harbor Walk Marina and toured the town and neighboring neighborhoods. Great little shops and the architecture of the old homes was simply amazing. Unfortunately the theater we heard and read so much about was closed. After visiting the seafood market and picking up fresh salmon and shrimp, we set sail for Murrell’s Inlet. It was an exciting cruise, a little incident with a barge. It seems fellow loopers M/V Pickett’s Pub was a witness but we have bribed them to secrecy. This adventure was 17.8NM and took us 3 hours and 26 minutes. We docked at Wacca Wacha Marina and rode our bikes to Marsh Walk. An apology is owed to the lady one of us scared when we fell off our bike in front of her car.

It was an amazing beautiful 40NM – 5 hour 35 minute cruise on Sunday, April 16, 2023 from Murrell’s Inlet to Bird Island. We dropped anchor a few miles off the ICW towards Little River Inlet in front of Sunset Beach. We stopped here on the way south and was excited to stop again and enjoy this peaceful spot. Well, prior to launching the dingy and heading to the beach, an unexpected wind storm rolled in. Mother Nature rocked and rolled our boat. We were a on careful watch but learned our anchor holds well!

We managed to tuck Three Sons into a nice spot at Harbor Walk Marina and back out the next morning.
Cheapest gas on the ICW at Wacca Wache. Something to smile about — diesel is $3.58 a gallon!

Arriving at Bird Island we crossed from South Carolina to North Carolina. Due to the delay in Savannah, only 4 stops in South Carolina and missed seeing Jodie and Stephen!
